Baby birds and black holes…

It’s baby bird season, and I’m on full time feeding duty

which is the equivalent of trying to fill in a supermassive black hole.

You’ve only just crammed their beaks full of worms, bugs and

bread when they’re screaming out for more. Where did it all go?

That was enough food to last me a week! If I try and stop for a

breather they scream blue murder and threaten to report me to

the SPCA. Beaks are no good for this, you can’t fit enough food in

them, where’s the gardener’s wheelbarrow?

Not all cats chase birds…

Birdhouse blues…

They’ve put up a birdhouse that their

grandson made in school. It’s build

quality leaves a little to be desired. I know

I sound rather ungrateful, but that could

be something to do with the six inch nail

sticking into my rear. If the grandson

had sanded off some of the forty-two

thousand splinters on the inside of the

box that would have helped as well!

Also, he didn’t make the entrance hole big

enough for the fuller-figured bird

like myself, so it was a bit of a squeeze getting

in. Plus, the roof leaks, the floor smells

and it’s back wall just fell off. I guess that

solves the problem of the small entrance.

The grapes of wrath…

I’m in trouble with the owners of the garden.

The grapes on the vine over their deck are just

starting to ripen. Yum! I’ve been tucking into

them for all I’m worth. However, it is a messy

operation. For a start, the seeds don’t taste very

nice so I have to spit them out. If you’ve ever

tried spitting with a beak you’ll know it’s

difficult to be accurate, the seeds shoot out every

which way… and then there’s the skins. It’s very hard

to digest grape skins so they have to be disposed of as well,

All this is not too much of a problem unless the

owners of the garden are trying to have a quiet,

snooze on the deck directly beneath you. They take

exception to seeds and skins raining down upon them.

Looks like from now on it’s going to be a night time

operation!

The builders cometh…

They’ve got the builders in. They’ve taken over the whole of the garden. It’s filled with saws and tools, bits of wood, old tarpaulins and off-cuts. It’s everywhere! I even found a box of nails in my nest. Builders are like a gas, they fill up all the available space. And the NOISE! Skill saws, hammering, swearing, mobile phones ringing, nail guns banging away. I’m no longer eating the bread on the bird-table, I’m stuffing it in my ears! Just like everything else, I’m covered in a layer of sawdust and everything I eat tastes of treated pine. It was never like this on Bob the Builder!
